Packing is often the most time-consuming part of any house move — but with the right approach it doesn't have to be stressful. At Skelmersdale Removals we've helped hundreds of families move across West Lancashire, and we've learned a thing or two about packing efficiently. Here are our top tips.
Most people underestimate how long packing takes. Start at least three weeks before your move date, beginning with items you use least often — books, ornaments, seasonal clothing and hobby equipment.
Invest in proper packing materials — sturdy boxes in a variety of sizes, plenty of packing tape, bubble wrap for fragile items, and packing paper. Cheap or flimsy boxes can collapse during the move and damage your belongings.
Write the contents AND the destination room on every box. Use a thick marker so it's easy to read. Consider using coloured tape — one colour per room — so your removal team knows exactly where each box goes without having to read every label.
Books, tools and kitchen equipment are heavy. Always pack these in small boxes so they're manageable to lift. Use large boxes for lighter items like duvets, pillows and soft furnishings.
Wrap each fragile item individually in bubble wrap or packing paper. Mark fragile boxes clearly on all sides — not just the top. Consider double-boxing particularly delicate items.
Pack a separate box with everything you'll need on moving day and the first night — kettle, mugs, teabags, phone charger, toilet roll, toiletries and bedding. Keep this with you rather than putting it on the van.
If the thought of packing everything yourself feels overwhelming, Skelmersdale Removals offers a professional packing service. We'll pack your entire home carefully and efficiently, using quality materials — leaving you free to focus on everything else.
